The 14th Century Sterling Silver Pattern by Shreve & Co. of San Francisco is one the most unusual antique sterling silver patterns ever manufactured. It is evocative of the times of Spanish swash buckling sailing ships. The pattern looks like the decorative portions of pirate treasure chests. The pattern features faux rivets and an intricately cut out cross shaped pattern.
Shreve & Co. only manufactured around 12 full line flatware patterns and the 14th Century Pattern was their most expensive pattern that they sold. Later on in the last half of the 20th century, the pattern was outsourced by Shreve Co. and made by hand inside of The Old Newbury Crafters Factory of Massachusetts. It was still branded as Shreve & Co.
There was an earlier iteration of the pattern first made in the year 1909 which as not as intricately made and had many variations with its different cuts and shapes and none of these had the faux rivets. The finalized version as shown above was made in the year 1912 and is the one that collectors in today's market most covet for collecting.

The 14th Century pattern was also made in hollowware pieces like tea & coffee sets, punch bowls, napkin rings and more. These holloware pieces are also extremely desirable and collectible in the antique silver market.
There is not much of the 14th Century pattern around today which makes the prices for collecting somewhat high. However, if you are a serious antique silver collector, you should definitely seek to acquire some of this pattern for your collection. It is unique, rugged and handsome.
